Suffice it to say, it's been some time since I've updated the blog. What was the last entry? Key West?? Geez. If I got paid for this I would fire myself.
A lot has been happening since then, though; almost all of it photography related and pretty much all of it good. So, you're not going to hear me complaining too much. I occasionally joke about how wanting to be a photographer has gotten completely out of hand, the truth of the matter is that I'm shooting now more than ever, and that's good by any measure.
I got involved with a company called Glossy Finish. They're now owned by Lifetouch (the school portrait people), but they specialize in youth sports. December saw two football tournaments that I shot for them here in Florida, and there was discussion about things coming up in the future. Well, the future is happening in about a month and a half, when I head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to shoot a baseball tournament at the Ripken Experience (as in "The Iron man" Cal Ripken). Once that's completed, I'll return to St. Augustine for ten days before heading back to Myrtle Beach for the summer. The money's decent and they rent us a house (there are three photographers going up from Florida), so things could be worse.
The coolest part of shooting youth sports is that these kids play hard. More than once I found myself thankful that I'm still spry enough to get out of the was when they came careening my way.

Of course, I'm still shooting concerts. Being the house photographer for both the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and the St. Augustine Amphitheater, I've found myself at some pretty cool shows, including a highlight show for me: Graham Nash:

The magazine gig remains one of my best gigs. I've been doing restaurant profiles for them since the first issue, but have recently started a new column called "The Musical Chair". The concept was originally that of my friend John Hancock in San Diego, who gave me permission to use the concept and massage it and mold it to my liking. I'm happy to report that it's been well received. The concept is pretty basic: Take a thrift shop wing-back chair to different locations around town, photograph area musicians sitting in it and tell their story. It's a fun column to write, but moving that chair can be a bitch:

And I can't say I'm not looking forward to that...
